Mental Illness, Substance Use, Homelessness, and Crime
This presentation concerns the sub-population who are at risk for experiencing mental illness, substance dependence, homelessness, and encounters with the justice system. Evidence will be presented detailing the effectiveness of interventions, including models of supported housing and specialized programs administered through the justice system. Specific outcomes of interest include criminal recidivism, housing stability, emergency and hospital service use, medication adherence, and overall public costs. The presentation draws on made-in-BC research involving randomized controlled trials, population-level registries, quasi experimental techniques, life course trajectories, and mixed designs.
C2E2 Rounds are presented Mondays from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in room 700 of the VGH Research Pavilion, 828 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC.
