Complexity and Health Care Management
Most leaders of health care organizations understand the concept of complexity, but many fail to act on that knowledge. I will describe an inquiry that surfaced the challenge of engaging with complexity; I will touch on where that inquiry has led my thinking about the system in which health care decision-making is carried out. I would like to engage participants in a discussion about the meaning of complexity and systems thinking, outline some thinking strategies that are useful when dealing with complexity, and share an idea to improve the ability of health care leaders to act in the context of complexity.
- Talk about complexity in health care management.
- Outline a proposal to improve the ability of health are leaders to act in the context of complexity.
